Introducing
Alexandra C Buik – BSc (Hons) MCPod HCPC
Alexandra Buik graduated from the University of Southampton in 1998 with an honours degree in Podiatry. She then worked for 16 years within the NHS, 13 years as a community Podiatrist and 10 years as a Clinical Lead for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities. Alex thoroughly enjoyed this role and was always very humbled to play a pivotal role in a person’s foot health at a point where they may have been the most clinically vulnerable. Alex continues to keep updated on current mental health legislation and is very mindful of such matters in a clinical setting. A rising number of patients with learning and physical disabilities are visiting the clinics and Alex always takes professional pride and enjoyment in treating them.
Since establishing her clinic in February 2017, Alex continues to enjoy treating a wide range of Podiatry issues. These include simple nail care, routine treatment, verruca treatment using SWIFT, Faulkners needling or conservative methods, high risk rheumatoid and diabetic patients, acute or chronic ingrowing nail infections and those who present with dermatology issues. Alex continues to have good professional links to local GP surgeries and rheumatology departments.
Alex continues to meet the standards set by the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC). She regularly keeps updated with current research and evidence based podiatry practice and is also a committee member of her local Royal College of Podiatry professional branch. She really looks forward to attending face to face professional events.
Outside of work, Alex has three very busy teenagers and helps to share care for her elderly mother-in-law, who lives with the family. To top it off, she also has 4 very lively and excitable dogs. Her happy place is walking the dogs around beautiful Dorset.
